THE BATTLE LOST AFTER THE BELL

| February 1, 2013 | 5 Comments

It was a battle lost before the fight, during the fight, but most notably after the fight. After listening to the rants of Anthony “The Man” Mundine in the post fight interview, I can honestly say he wants no Australian in his corner.

I’ve loved the guy from day one. I admired him as a footballer, a boxer and a mentor to those in his personal life, but I can honestly say I can’t see myself standing up for him again.

Mundine had always been a gracious loser and also a humble winner, but the actions of himself and his camp after the fight were disgraceful.
It’s upsetting for me to be let down like this after all the undeserved support I had given him and countless arguments with his detractors over the years.

I am not Mundine’s biggest fan; I had not watched a fight of his since Danny Green. I am simply a supporter that backed his unorthodox style of self promotion. All that crap he goes on with, I laugh at that. If he gets beat in a fight, I don’t really care. But to disrespect his opponent after the fight, and call the officials cheats is beyond what I thought he would do.

He lost a lot after that fight with Danny Geale, and I don’t mean his place in the rankings. He lost people like me that bought into his usual hype before the fight, only to make us feel embarrassed afterwards.

His actions are spreading like a cancer to those around him, and for other celebrities to back his disgraceful rants will have the consequence of themselves losing support.

Karma is a wonderful thing, you will learn about that Sonny Bill in the near future.

You have said it all so eloquently Brad, he lost most people before the fight for disrespecting Daniel Geale’s wife and Daniel himself. Maybe one knock too many, the guy really makes no sense with his rants, you have summed it up well.

Thanks Sandra, there’s only so much you can do or say.

Couldn’t agree more Brad – you voiced my opinion and discussion with mates almost word for word. As you know I’m a fan/supporter too and thought that his “bravado” was amusing and good for the sport as far as interest goes. Always thought he was slightly misunderstood and that his mouth worked just a little bit quicker than his mind.

Unfortunately the blatant lack of respect (not touching gloves at the start of the last, the post fight rants, SBW’s “hanging on” etc) really turned me off and made it nigh on impossible to defend Anthony. It’s still possible to argue his abilities – it’s his attitude/personality that have become virtually inexcusable.

    Great piece mate.
